VIVIENNE O’BRIEN

Vivienne is the founder and director of Luna Yoga. She was introduced to yoga in 1990 on a small island in Thailand. After a week of early morning classes she intuitively knew that yoga would become a large part of her life. On returning home she discovered the Iyengar Yoga method. It offered her a complete yoga practice with vast challenges.

After completing her teacher training in 1998 she became a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher. Since opening the studio in 2000 she has gone on to attain a subsequent three levels of accreditation to become a Senior Iyengar Yoga teacher. Her eagerness to continue her understanding of yoga has taken her many times to Pune in India to study directly with the Iyengar family.

Vivienne feels that the more she practises, the more doors open to the challenge. This challenge is kept alive and exciting by working with her teacher Peter Thomson, one of Mr. Iyengar’s most senior teachers

Vivienne is passionate to share her twenty five years of experience with her students. She values the Iyengar Yoga method of teaching for its clarity of instruction, its capacity for precision and its ongoing opportunity for exploration. She wishes to instil in her students an ‘affection for the practice’ so that over time they will enjoy the transformative nature the practice.

RACHEL MULLIGAN

Rachel’s love of yoga started in Christchurch, New Zealand and followed her to London and then Melbourne. As a research scientist she was attracted to the “science” of Iyengar Yoga. Initially, the yoga asanas (poses) didn’t come naturally but when she started teacher training in 2004 she utilised the techniques that Mr Iyengar has given us (props, sequencing and timings) to experiment with her body.

She obtained her Iyengar Yoga certification in Oct 2009. She regularly trains with Senior Iyengar teachers in Australia and has studied with the Iyengars in Australia and at their institute in India.

ANDREA MAYERS

Andrea had been practising yoga for many years when she discovered Iyengar yoga in 2010. She was immediately inspired by its approach to learning which emphasises alignment and experimentation. The Iyengar method gave her the tools to develop her yoga practice in preparation for an intense two-year teacher training program with senior Iyengar Yoga teacher Vivienne O’Brien. Andrea completed her training in 2019. She appreciates and enjoys the mental and physical benefits of a regular yoga practice and advocates a ‘jump in and try’ approach at any stage of life.
